If you’re like most Americans, you spend a lot of time sitting. A whopping 86% of working Americans sit most of the day at a desk.
Research has linked sitting for long periods of time with a number of health concerns, including obesity and metabolic syndrome — a cluster of conditions that includes increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels. Too much sitting also seems to increase the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Here are some tips to move more throughout the day:
-Set a calendar reminder or alert to get up and walk around the office once every hour
-Look into buying a standing desk
-Go for a walk on your lunch break
-Instead of emailing a colleague in your office go to their office or desk to discuss the matter
-Use conference calls as an opportunity to do some small exercises such as this:
